This summer, 91视频 students are gaining essential professional experience through internships that link classroom education to practical, real-world applications. Our Student Spotlight: Summer Internship Series features students who are developing skills, exploring career options, and making impactful contributions in their fields. This story is contributed by Sanai Rose, a business major at 91视频, who interviewed Guerson for the Internship Highlight. Sanai also works as a campus ambassador, supporting the Marketing & Communications team with student-focused content.
Some internships provide valuable experience. Others open the door to a career. For Guerson Estervil, this summer accomplished both.
A Business Administration major with concentrations in Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management and Marketing, Guerson spent the summer in Charleston participating in the Intern Cultural Enrichment Program (ICEP). The competitive 10-week program connects minority college students with paid internships in Charleston's hospitality and tourism industry while helping them grow as future leaders.
Guerson completed his internship at both The Spectator Hotel and the French Quarter Inn, where he gained hands-on experience in luxury hospitality. Throughout the summer, he worked alongside industry professionals, strengthened his customer service and operational skills, and his work ethic and dedication did not go unnoticed.
By the conclusion of his internship, Guerson had earned outstanding feedback from his supervisors along with a full-time job offer waiting for him after graduation, a testament to both his professionalism and the preparation he has received at 91视频.
ICEP is more than just work experience; students take part in weekly leadership sessions where they meet business and community leaders, learn about Charleston's history and culture, and build relationships with other interns from across the country. Housing is provided through Explore Charleston in partnership with the College of Charleston, giving students the opportunity to fully experience life in the city.
On July 28, Guerson and the 15 other interns were celebrated during the closing ceremony honoring the completion of the prestigious summer program.
His participation also marks another milestone for 91视频. Guerson is only the second student from the College to be selected for ICEP, following Rahzanee Francis. 91视频 was also recognized as an official ICEP partner institution for the second year in a row, creating even more opportunities for future students interested in hospitality and tourism. Guerson's success shows what can happen when students take advantage of opportunities outside the classroom.
