Artist:
Romanian-born artist Adrian Gor's "Masses of the Undone" presents large-scale figurative works examining masculinity's role in Western art and contemporary identity. Drawing inspiration from classical representations of the male figure in art history, Gor transforms familiar images by combining precise anatomical structures with processes of erasure, abstraction, and reconstruction. Bringing the viewer into the composition, these tremendous, expansive works offer a new encounter with the male figure, inviting reflection on notions of strength and vulnerability. Mixing dry media with traditional painting techniques "Masses of the Undone" acknowledges what has celebrated, overlooked, or redefined in historical and contemporary understandings of masculinity.
Based in Ottawa, Canada, Gor is a visual artist, educator, and scholar whose work spans drawing, painting, and printmaking. He holds an MFA from the University of Windsor and a Ph.D. in Art History and Philosophy from Concordia University. His research and exhibitions have been presented internationally, and he currently teaches at the Ottawa School of Art. This is a rare presentation of Gor's work for the first time in South Carolina.

Artist:
South Carolina artist, designer, and writer Alexander Rouse presents a new body of work rooted in his Southern identity and the natural world. Drawing from religious iconography and the agrarian heritage of his ancestors, "The Yoke and The Maw" explores the layered histories that shape personal and cultural experience. Exhibited concurrently with Adrian Gor's analysis of masculinity, Rouse expands the conversation to consider selfhood more broadly.
Combining skilled draftsmanship with water-based painting, cyanotype, assemblage, and pyrography, Rouse balances traditional techniques with material experimentation. Placing plants, animals, and found objects within symbolic and narrative contexts, Rouse examines how identity is formed through inherited traditions, beliefs, and a connection to place.
